That’s very useful to know, given that footwear is such a critical component in climbing. Thanks for the explanation, TLoftus and Mark.
I’m 120 lbs, so I might have the same problem at Denali and Aconcagua. Would the La Sportiva G2 Evo boots be adequate for both those mountains?
Moiez K on October 1, 2022 at 4:34 pm · in reply to: What are your upcoming climbs/events/goals that made you join? #71229Richard, those are challenging when done together. Are you doing these guided or unguided? Solo or in a group?
I also do my Z1/Z2 runs fasted in the morning (after eating only breakfast and lunch the previous day) and it has worked well for me so far. I tried to do strength training fasted but prefer a meal about 2-3 hours before.
I BELIEVE any workout done after about 4-5 hours of not eating anything is considered a fasted workout; one doesn’t have to do the fast overnight.
Loving this thread. I have problems with recovery some days. From time to time, my lower body gets quite sore within a few minutes of starting a hilly hike (as has been the case this past week). I’m not sure if it is under-training or over-training.
I like lifting weights 2-3 days a week in the gym (otherwise I look “skinny-fat”) and do indoor rock climbing once a week. Would I be able to incorporate those with the group Plan? When I did the 24-week Plan on my own, it was difficult to do that.
I will drop my tennis in the middle of October so I can focus on the group Plan.
Thanks,

I have climbed Kilimanjaro and Cotopaxi (I know, trekking peaks) and planning on Ishinca and Tocllaraju in Peru in July 2023. I also do indoor rock climbing and have done some outdoor rock climbing. I LOVE this passion, want to learn and become a better mountaineer and climber and am EXCITED to be in this group. I have completed UA’s 24-week Plan a couple of times and have seen great improvements in my AeT.

Hi,
I have done the 24 week Mountaineering Plan and my AeT has increased from 132 to the current 158 over the course of 2 years or so. I did another AeT last week and these are my results:

Is it ok to assume that my AeT is now at 166? I probably started my watch a little too early (since my current AeT was 158, I started my watch when my HR was around that number), so if you just consider the last 45 minutes or so, it shows 166 or thereabouts.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I’ve signed up for the upcoming Group Training. Thanks!!!

Moiez K on August 29, 2022 at 5:40 pm · in reply to: Hill and Simulated Hill Methods – Order of Priority #70350Thanks for the explanation, Mark. I would have to drive at least an hour to get to reasonable hills. My gym has traditional treadmills, where the maximum incline is 20%.
This link lists the dates for the Zoom calls. I didn’t see a date for the start of the training:
Moiez K on August 29, 2022 at 5:16 pm · in reply to: Questions on getting set for 9/28 group start #70347Hi everyone, I just signed up for the Fall Group Training and am really looking forward to it. I did the 24 week Plan about 3 times during covid (since most travel was closed and I had too much time). In March 2022, I attempted Cotopaxi and was fit enough, but my mountaineering boots were about 1.5 sizes too big, so got blisters and had to turn around. I had climbed Kilimanjaro in 2017 and Cotopaxi in 2019 and my upcoming plan is Bolivia in September 2023 and possibly Aconcagua in Jan/Feb 2024.
Since I started the 24 week Plan the first time, my AeT has gone from 132 to 158. I am not sure which Plan I should select – I am tempted to select the Intermediate Plan, but don’t want to miss any additional benefits that I could get by doing the Base Plan. Also, my next mountaineering objective is not until a year from now, so it probably wouldn’t hurt to start off with the Base Plan now? Any thoughts? Thanks!
I REALLY want to be 110% fit for Aconcagua, if I eventually decide to do that.
