Training for the Female Athlete
For female athletes, training that works is built around physiology, across cycle, pregnancy, postpartum, and the menopausal years.
At Uphill Athlete, we coach the body you have, in the stage you are in, toward the goals you set.

The joy and challenge of training as a female athlete
Female athletes continue to overcome scientific training bias. The physiology of the female athlete is unique, not merely a smaller version of the male athlete.
Our coaching team is led by a Director of Coaching who trains and competes as a female athlete and holds a Master’s in Exercise Science. She reviews every training and nutrition program UA writes and keeps the rest of our coaches current on what is understood about cycle-aware programming, fueling and RED-S, postpartum return to sport, and training across the peri- and post-menopause years. The result is coaching that adapts to where you are, rather than asking your physiology to adapt to a standard plan.

Thinking about training?
Training as a female athlete means training in a body whose response to load, fueling, and recovery shifts across the menstrual cycle, across pregnancy and the year after, and across the peri- and post-menopause years. The training that holds up across those stages is built with that in mind, rather than overlaid on a generic plan. A coach or a training group gives that work the shape it needs.

The Uphill Athlete approach to training.
Training is more than just working out.
Our evidence-based approach looks beyond exercise alone. It accounts for sleep, stress, nutrition, and the demands of real life while progressively building sport-specific fitness on top of base aerobic endurance.
This methodology has helped thousands of people move better, last longer, and go farther. From Everest summits to first finish lines, the principles are the same.
If you’re ready to build true mountain fitness, this is where it begins.
