I’m also awaiting the link to the final zoom meeting. I’m hoping to get it before I lose access to the board next week. Was it posted elsewhere by chance?
Justin Jones on January 13, 2022 at 9:23 pm · in reply to: Large increase in my Aerobic Threshold. Is this normal? #62104Thanks Mark. Yeah I suspected it was probably a combination of the 2. For reference, I was a utility meter reader for 7 years up. We hiked on average 13 miles a day, every day of the week at what was probably a zone 2 pace now that I look back on it. So I inadvertently was kind of doing similar workloads to you guys training years ago. So perhaps that has aided my adaptation to the training.
I’ve also worked with a personal trainer for 4 years now and I’ve had a history working on muscle endurance with her. Plus I was doing ruck marches as part of my prep in the past. So a lot of the stuff You guys have laid out for me has been familiar.
As far as the heart rate I always try to aim for the middle of the zone so I have room for it to go up and down a bit and still stay within the zone as often as possible. The only time I’d try to run towards the top is if I’m on a treadmill and can watch the pace with precision. But so far the 150s have felt just fine! I’m also trying to give myself as much rest each night as possible.
Anyway. Thanks again!
Justin Jones on January 8, 2022 at 9:23 pm · in reply to: Large increase in my Aerobic Threshold. Is this normal? #61790I should point out, when I did the Aerobic Threshold test that came out with a number of 146 my drift percentage was barely high enough to qualify for a successful test. So I may have been operating on a low Aet HR.
Justin Jones on January 1, 2022 at 5:31 pm · in reply to: FYI HR monitor chest straps can connect to an Apple Watch #61389Thanks for this Michal! I used it to pair my Wahoo heart rate tracker with my apple watch and it was very easy. I had been doing my sunday hikes outdoors with my phone in my hand as a means of watching my heart rate. But this will be a lot better. I’ll be able to keep my hands free and watch the heart rate via the watch now. Tested it on the treadmill today and watched both and they matched perfectly throughout. Very happy with this development.
Great to hear!
Justin Jones on December 26, 2021 at 6:13 pm · in reply to: mountaineering training group, round two questions #61158I’ve not received any emails for signing up for a follow up program, but I would have an interest. I’d like to continue to build a training base to be better equipped to go after big goals in the future.
My biggest issues with the videos is that they quickly exemplify a movement, do it, then move on without much actual attention to repetition of the movement or creating a workout built around sets. It honestly gives me anxiety doing it cause before I can refine a movement we’re moving on and then doing the next movement badly. I feel like it’d be better to have fewer movements, broken down into repeatable sets so as to get better quality out of the movements.
That being said I’ve worked with my personal trainer on these types of workouts using the Chamonix videos as inspiration. She knows a lot more about where I’m at right now, where my deficiencies are and how I’m progressing. I’ve found it helpful.
I was looking in the Green section. I see my error now. I’ve updated the settings.
I’m not seeing a “carrot” or “Upside down triangle” on the interface. I’ve scoured every inch of the training peaks page to try and make the adjustment, but can’t find it. Anyone else having trouble?
I had really wanted to ask about adapting the schedule of the program to better coincide with my Orizaba climb in late February. Current programming has this ending in January. Obviously I’ll need to make an adjustment.
I’m from Kansas City in the mountainous state of Missouri. haha, I usually pike a 14er or 2 in Colorado to climb during the summer and train throughout the year. I’m a type 1 diabetic, and I use the training I do as a means of keeping my blood sugars in check. Plus having a goal to work towards keeps me motivated.
Tallest I climbed was Kilimanjaro for my 30th birthday a few years ago. Favorite climb was Rainier in 2019. Working on preparing for Pico de Orizaba in Mexico late February.
Justin Jones on November 3, 2021 at 2:55 pm · in reply to: What are your upcoming climbs/events/goals that made you join? #58761Rainier is a good one! Maybe my favorite summit I ever bagged.
Justin Jones on November 3, 2021 at 2:54 pm · in reply to: What are your upcoming climbs/events/goals that made you join? #58760I’m going on a guided expedition with RMI to climb Pico de Orizaba on their “volcanoes of Mexico” program. There’s 3 peaks on that trip at heights of 14,600ft/17,000ft/18,500ft in a 9 day period. So I’m hoping to boost my endurance but also my recovery.
Down the line my larger project is to hit all 50 state high points, which means sooner or later Denali is on the schedule. I felt this program could set me in the right direction.
