Aaron, that’s a great episode! I found it very helpful when I was tapering for my first event, a 32k run in the alps, this Sept. One of my big takeaways was that thanks to his work particularly with astronauts, he has moved more and more towards more recovery time, his studies having shown that the benefits of training, including strength training, last far longer than we think. The episode is from 2015, but the overarching message of ‘less is better than more’ seems to be really hard to take on board…

Jane Mackay on November 30, 2021 at 5:18 am · in reply to: Thoughts on the Next Training Plan #60088I went all-out during the sale and bought the four remaining plans that I didn’t already own that I thought I would want to use one day 😀
I now own all the mountain running plans and the 24-week mountaineering plan, which I bought particularly to have the structure of a six-month training plan that I could — with the great deal of knowledge and experience I’ve gained from three rounds of this group — modify to suit my capacity and my needs.

At first I hoped Iten was a typo for Italy, since that’s where I am, but I see it’s the hub of running training in the highlands of Kenya. Well, it’s not too far away… Maybe I should go and convince Canova he needs to write a book and I am the writer/editor to help him do it 😉
Thanks very much for that link, Eric!
If the plan was synched with TP when you bought it and you still are using the same TP account, the plan should still be in your TP plan library. When you’re in calendar view, there’s an icon for ‘Training Plans’ at the l/h side of the top of the calendar. To restart it, you click on the plan and then in the popup box choose the date you want to start the plan on. There’s also an option to choose the end date rather than the start date, if you want to time it for a certain goal.

Could one of you point me to a good source? It doesn’t look as though he’s written a book, and when I google Renato Canova Fundamental Period it brings up a whole lot of websites, most or all of which seem to be commentary rather than an original source.
Thanks!Dominik, schöne Grüße aus Italien! 😉
Your HR averages are almost exactly the same as mine in my last HR drift test 5-6 weeks ago. My pace was slower, but there was a similarly small change. I’m in the Female Uphill Athlete group programme coached by Carolyn and Maya, and after discussion with them I decided on 144 as my top of Z2. I prefer to err on the low side bc I have a tendency to get enthusiastic when I’m feeling good and then go too hard.
Hope this helps!
JaneOne thing I’m curious about is that he doesn’t put his heel on the step for the one-legged stepups. UA Coach Carolyn has said that for the box step ups we should put the full foot on the box/step so you’re using the big muscles in the posterior chain rather than overloading the quads.
Gareth, that does look like it would be effective. Bookmarking this!
That’s very helpful. Thank you, Carolyn!
Hi @carolyn-8307, I should have put this in the list for the Zoom chat, which I wasn’t able to attend, but I didn’t. Can you advise me? I’d also be interested to know the answer to Melanie’s question about the timing of PT on an aerobic day.
Thank you! That’s very helpful, thanks Shashi. I had been doing it only for every 300m of gain and ignoring the drop. I always hike or run down, so I’ll be going back and recalculating the TSS for all hikes and runs with 300m or more of gain and drop!
