Chamfit – seems a big jump from Level 2 to 3 eg full depth pistol squats in 3 but no pistol squats in 2. Advice if 2 seems relatively easy but 3 seems too hard?

Thanks Mark – appreciate your thoughts. Always stoked to tackle a new mountain and I struggle to say no! Denali has to come first for 2022.
Thanks guys – definitely feeling the cold more as I age. Got half a mind on suitability for G2 and Broad Peak in 2023. Ever growing kit store is getting some comments from Mrs M now 🙂
Ignore me – it’s working now 🙂

Wildly fluctuating heart rate
Last couple of Z2/Z1 runs has seen my HR vary wildly while PRE remains constant. AeT is 152, ANet 175. Heart rate has been swinging from 115 to 175 whilst PRE is 2 or 3. Seems to settle after about 15 mins. Thoughts?
Thanks Brian – very useful. I’ve watched the video
I’ve got a Rab Neutrino https://rab.equipment/uk/neutrino-pro-jacket but felt cold during a storm on Elbrus so feel the need to upgrade for Denali
I try and buy used/second-hand where I can so will keep an eye out for one of those models coming up on Ebay etc
mattmay3s on December 3, 2021 at 12:06 am · in reply to: Anaerobic Threshold Test Instructions #60217Thanks Mark and Nate – we have an undulating 13km ridge on my door step but its max height is 325m. Its great for endurance or repeated hill sprints, ME water carries but I don’t think it would work for this as there is no single stretch that would be uphill for 45 mins. Sounds like I’ll be running. Will focus on consistent RPE which will make a nice change from looking at my watch constantly!
@saulj – thanks will check out Sharp End

Thanks Mark – will take a look
Thanks Mark – I found the heavy ME water carries brutal and took some recovering from! Cant say I’m looking forward to them 🙂 Will add 1 heavy lift session every other week during this block and kep an eye on recovery. I can definitely see the value of all the SL work.
@ Edgar – thanks for your thoughts buddy; appreciate that.
Yep my intro to UA was buying TFNA after it was recommended by a guide whilst was breathing out of my ass during a blizzard on Aneto 🙂 What I ‘usually’ do is do a 12 week strength block up to Christmas and then switch to the 24 week UA Mountaineering plan in build up to a summer expeds and then back into strength after that. Recognise its a compromise but the variety of challenges keeps me engaged.
CV19 blown that plan apart this year – cancelled a trip to Spantik and ended up supporting a mate running 48 marathons in the 48 English Counties in 48 days – I only did 2 marathons and a 50km run in a 10 day period – that gave me a CTL of 75 about 6 weeks ago.
When I saw this group forming was too good an opportunity to miss with Denali coming up in May next year.
Also thinking about 2023 when I have Gasherbrum II plus possible Broad Peak 🙂
@Mark – thanks, maybe a Denali Trainig Group after this one, seem a number of us are heading that way this summer:-)
@Mark – Was going to ask about tire drags for Denali once I’d got into the plan a bit more but seeing as its been raised now 🙂 – when would you start to introduce these? Heading out in May ’22
