Hi Scott, yes before I did a separate lab test for my Aet and Ant, I did a gas exchange test at Boise State and it was determined that my VO2 max was around 172.
Your answer makes a lot of sense. I was kind of thinking that my leg strength is lagging a bit behind. I appreciate you answering my question!
Cosmic Hillbilly on May 8, 2020 at 12:54 pm · in reply to: Maximum HR when doing Z4 intervals #41358Thank you Scott! That is good information. I forgot to add to my original post that it is possible for me to hit my VO2 HR (172) when doing faster hikes on less gradient (10%) but not on steeper grades. I was thinking that weaker FT fibers are limiting my speed and therefore my high-end HR on steeper gradients.

I wondered the same. Here is a link to a good article that gives a convincing answer to your question:

Thank you!
SwayneCosmic Hillbilly on January 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm · in reply to: Building Aerobic Base- I am not sure if I am over or under-doing it? #7748Hi Scott S.,
From your advice, I calculated the top of my zone 2 as 146 (80% of my maximum HR) and the bottom of my zone 4 as 164 (90% of max. HR). The results are 89%. So this means I can do most of my training in zone 2 (75-80%) instead of zone 1 (60-75%)? So zone 2 is not going to be the “grey zone” for me?I appreciate your response.
Thanks!

I am so glad I did the lactate test. This way I know where I stand and what I need to work on. BTW, I had no idea how affordable that test was! I am so glad I do not have to rely on ventilation anymore to determine my aerobic threshold. It turns out that my perceived aerobic threshold was a lot higher than what it is actually is.Anyway, I look forward to my zone 1 workouts. I really appreciate your expertise and help!
Thanks!

Training has been going well except for work since this is my busy season and I will spend the next few weeks along the Gulf Coast. This will disrupt my routine but it was expected.
Thank you!

I am very excited about the metrics, sounds like a very useful tool. It will really allow me to focus on my progress. Thanks again!Swayne
Perfect! I will go with the SkiMo plan.
Thank you!
SwayneHi, I trying to decide between the “hut to hut” and the “Ski Mo” training plan. I was going to go with the hut to hut plan then I read that the Ski-mo plan is recommended for “those with more time to prepare”. I do have time for a 16-week training plan. I am a middle-aged advanced skier that likes to skin up and ski down the local mountains (central Idaho). My goal is to get better at backcountry skiing (i.e., vertical feet) and hiking uphill. I do not plan to race. My question is, will the Ski Mo plan be “overkill” for me? Thank you! Swayne
