Mark, as always appreciate the great guidance.
I’ll be eliminating grass cutting, golf and pub-crawls from my tracking!!
Looking forward to the text MTG.
Cheers, Keith

keith brown on July 19, 2022 at 1:29 pm · in reply to: Recovery from Intermediate Goal and Prep for Primary Goal #69306Another question Mark.
If I do the base plan as prescribed, will those 12 weeks provide sufficient training to move to the advanced?
If no (I know the initial answer is “depends”), what ballpark CTL should I achieve before starting the Advanced program?
Understanding the second question will help in modifying the Base pgm appropriately for the Advanced transition.
Thanks in advance, Keith

A related question you briefly touched on. In the past I recall training at before Denali in some of my heavier leather hiking boots. Even given the time since this climb, I recall my hip flexors screaming during and after Alaska. My guess was the weight and gait of snowshoes or the added weight of hardshell boots, gaiters/outer insulation and crampons.
For us flatlanders, what do you recommend?
Thoughts on heavier boots with ankle weights?
Overthinking?Thanks, Keith

I try to support our UA community – an update supporting the treadmill AeT test would be great. I use the TM exclusively – feel’s like it provides a more accurate result.
I just purchased your app and I look forward to using it.
Normally I conduct my AeT test on a treadmill, and I just noticed your instructions are for an outdoor test.
Does your app allow for testing on a treadmill?
Thanks, Keith

Just restating, if you are a mountain/expedition-focused athlete (regardless of training phase), and you had only two go-to strength exercises, what would you chose?
Box step-ups – consensus on that one.
the second options
single-leg – lunges, split squats, Bulgarian split-squats…?
Traditional – dead-lift… (I’m hearing Scott speaking in the background saying of athletes and sports “only football linemen push with both legs!”Mark, Mariner…
Just FYI. I bumped up another 5 to 65lbs. Normally I leave a water bottle on the stairs and hit it during reps in the stairwell. This time I had a 2L bladder in my pack. At about 70 lbs. I understand what it feels like having leg strength being the limiting factor! Had to hit it to understand how it felt. Got to the point where my legs were smoked and not able to finish the 75 minutes. Good learning experience. I’m fortunate to have time in my schedule to apply to training later this year. I’ll back off 10 and go from there.
I’m assuming as we adapt during the 12 weeks of ME we are either able to increase vertical gain or increase weight.
Appreciate the group feedback.
Thanks Mark.
I am using stairs in 12-floor building. HRmax is 165, AnT is 151. I’ll add a bit more weight and see how it goes. Last few laps it’s been high Z3 and bumping into AnT, but I’ll review the data again.
I’ll keep you posted. Thanks!
