Great question! Especially “Do these plans survive contact w/ life?” LOLSome thoughts/experiences:
1) Do my workouts first thing in the morning. I lay everything out the night before so all I have to do is wake up, gear up, and go. No thinking, no hesitation, no chance for interfering distractions to pop up2) Find multiple activity/workout partners who have the same time/day/schedule to do an activity/workout with me. If Partner A can’t make it, then Partner B hopefully can. Great support and I find it can double up as “hang out” time (esp. hikes & climbing)
3) On recovery days, I invite friends from a different social group for easy jogs/activities. They may not be training for anything but they’re interested to just “get out”. Which works well for me as I want an easy run/climb and I can catch up with different people (variety’s the spice of life!)
4) Constantly check the weather (helps w/ #1)
5) Listen to my body & keep some schedule flexibility. Sometimes I just push it too hard and need an extra break…so I give myself one. I’ve had too many times when I just “sucked it up” and pushed through only to get sick. Really annoying when you’re the only person you can blame lol
I believe the 24 week plan is the same as the book but it uses TrainingPeaks (TP) as the tracking/calendar medium.
An alternative to using TP + 24 week plan is to use the TftNA log book:
I found the learning curve w/ the log book much more gradual vs. TP.
However, at the end of the day you can do/learn/track more with TP. So it just depends on where you’re at and how much time/effort you want to put into learning a new tool.TerryLui on December 12, 2019 at 10:30 am · in reply to: Beginner: I want to Run not Walk RE: AeT base training frustration :) #34233Hey Scott,
A few thoughts come to mind:
1) Without knowing much of your background, my guess would be that you have ADS and have developed a running efficiency in the higher HR zones. Hence why your heart wants to jump to where it is most comfortable at/trained at.2) The inconsistency of HR jumping up sometimes vs other times may be a factor of any number of things. We are human and some days are “good” and others “bad”. Ex. Recovery, life/work stress, rest, diet, etc. Your comment of improving endurance for long runs is encouraging. If you’re willing, you may try tracking your sleep, food/water intake, etc. This builds a historic database you can look back on to tease out any correlations over time and experience.
3) I experienced a similar thing when I first started with UA, spent SOOOO much time walking it was boring. But…such is developing an aerobic base.
4) My understanding of the energy pathways for AeT vs AnT is that the body switches fuel sources from fat primary (AeT) to carb primary (AnT). At the crossover stage/transition period b/w AeT & AnT, a bit of both is used and it’s not just an on/off switch. Not sure if I would call it throwing away aerobic/anaerobic “power” but your body drawing on a more limited reserve of carbs and becoming depleted is more imminent than staying within AeT and drawing on a near limitless reserve of fats.
BTW, I’m assuming Alison created the custom plan for you as a 1 time thing? It may be worth booking a phone call w/ her/Scott to check in on the above?

Congrats on achieving your goal and a personal best!!Considering you were in a race, it’s likely you pushed your limits more than you would during training (i.e. personal best), not to mention the psychological factor of being in a busy/exciting competitive environment.
Hey Rebecca,
Per #7 – any recommendations for food diary trackers? MyFitnessPal?TerryLui on December 12, 2019 at 10:05 am · in reply to: New trainigsplan but not able to keep fitness score CTL #34229Hi Heiko,
TrainingPeaks (TP) can offer better information the longer and more consistently you use it.
The below link references 42 days:
https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/204071884-Fitness-CTL-If you’re just starting with TP, I would keep tracking your workouts without changes and then you can see what TP tells you.
Alternatively, if you need/want to make changes to your workout, then listen to your body and reflect on how you feel/how you recover after the changes. Ex. You increase volume/intensity and discover you need 3 days to recover…that will indicate the increase was likely too aggressiveTerryLui on November 30, 2019 at 9:32 pm · in reply to: Ice Climbing Training Strenght Plan – Specific Training #33342-does this mean just one set total of a 30 sec hang?
Hey Paul,
That’s how I’m doing itWill Gadd has some kind of wooden structure that he leans agains a tree that does the same thing, is much much cheaper and works in much the same way except you have to downclimb or jump from the top. I don’t have a photo of it but I bet there are some online somewhere.
Here you go:

http://willgadd.com/functional-movement-4-exercises-that-matter-for-sport-and-life/I think if the lunch time run isn’t adversely effecting your recovery and your other workouts (or perhaps it’s a Recovery/Z1 run???), I believe it’d be fine.
Try this:
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp cider vinegar
2 tbsp grainy Dijon mustard
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp Herbes de Provence
1 tbsp cornstarch
Salt & pepperCook desired protein until it’s nearly finished (2-3 min from being done). Turn heat down to simmer, add sauce, stir and heat until desired consistency.
Serve w/ veggies & quinoa 🙂
I like to cook my veggies separately from the protein as they have different cooking rates and I like to taste the “veggie flavor” vs having it blended in w/ the “protein flavor”
