I have only had one full knee replacement…..exactly three years ago….I have been very lucky (cause was initially sport injury many years ago and not much arthritis in other body parts)….my primary endurance sports/passions are ski touring/mountaineering and hiking with a little biking….(wading/fishing in rivers does fine with my knee but I use a wading staff for a little balance help the last decade) I do all better and more comfortably than pre knee replacement, though at 68 years old I am a bit slower than previous decades……Chet

ski mountaineering in the Sierra is Awsome! Big peaks and big connect the dots routes and traverses…..fantastic Spring skiing says me the Colorado skier…..my only trips there in the Spring have been amazing terrain…..can’t say enough positive……Chet
This was addressed/answered under my 2/23/21 question in the ski-mountaineering section….answer was essentially train with ankle weights Later not earlier in your training…..look there, Chet Roe

oops Dan above referenced Peter Attia, not Scott
to slightly amplify….Peter Attia, who Scott mentions above, is a physician who personally wears a CGM full time for the last few years….you can find stuff on his website peterattiamd.com …he has been a long distance swimmer and bicyclist but is most focused on longer quality of life issues personally and professionally….I think he is a pretty bright guy….double major in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics with MD from Stanford…he covers a lot of territory in his work/website though not specifically focused on endurance sports….he also very interested in various fasting/eating regimens…..anyway just some FYI to check out ….Chet
ski touring/mountaineering NOT racing…..Scott Johnston said/posted “in example” sometime ago that essentially a couple of days a week on a stairmaster is NOT good enough training for endurance sports (duh? I don’t remember where he posted this specifically)…..I did the Heathen Challenge at Sunlight fifteen years ago on tele gear for fun….enjoyed it but I don’t care about racing in general…just want to be more optimal in training for touring……makes sense but good to hear that training light early on and adding weight later is more optimal…..Thanks Much!!
