    I am developing my plan for my transition period and in Steve’s book, it recommends for weeks 1-3 two recovery workouts, one after a Zone 2 and the second after a climbing day, Is there any logic to combining the zone 2 and recovery workouts in one day? Is there any guidance against combining certain workouts in a single day like a zone 2 run and an upper body strength day?

    It depends on the individual and the desired training effect. For some, doing the workouts in the same day, due to increased stimulus and fatigue, will create a training effect rather than recovery. For others with more training history, the recovery workout may indeed be a recovery workout.

    For combining strength and Z2, it’s not a problem to combine them but do the more important one first. Which is more important will depend on your training priorities.
