I’ll heed that advice well as I’m familiar with injury and overtraining in the past. I’ll be conservative with the execution. Thanks very much for the guidance.

Thanks a lot, Scott. The route is the Hotlum/Bolum ridge of Mt. Shasta. It’s not just me on the route, but also my partner who has been rebuilding from back issues from last year. It’s a very conservative outlook, though heavier packs don’t really help her situation looking at it now.
We’ve done fine ascending Adams in the past even while physically underprepared; I personally ascend Mt. St. Helens in about 2.5 – 3 hrs (about 20 different times), but a much different thing. All things considered, you are right to question the 3 days. I probably wouldn’t hold to that, especially since 2 days means a lighter setup.
Saying it out loud is making me realize the only really big difference is the food, in which case it probably makes sense to choose your latter suggestion of speed work. I appreciate the suggestion and will listen to my body amidst the experiment!

Thank you Scott! For anything involving longer approaches (time on foot) that are below AeT leading up to or away from the core experience, should I count that time as volume as well? Or just the expected workout?
ascasson on February 27, 2020 at 12:15 pm · in reply to: Training Approach to Multiple, Varied Mountain Objectives #38910Sweet, thanks Scott. I did mean the 8-week, but I will go with the 16-week. It sounded rather intimidating given its description; I guess I can always rework it a little.
ascasson on February 25, 2020 at 2:00 pm · in reply to: Training Approach to Multiple, Varied Mountain Objectives #38752Thanks Scott. To you or anyone with thoughts, would this mean doing something different from the 8-week plan or just adding a larger base period to that plan? Perhaps it makes sense to do an extended version of that plan for the first objective, then rest and cycle back through it for the second objective?
Thanks vik.waghray and everyone – the Hex Torr Trainers have worked well for my skill level and limited gym resources. I can imagine more advanced training would benefit from full-blow tools and ample room for those specific exercises, but these can go a long way.
Thanks everyone! This is extremely helpful.
