Hi all, recreational athlete here who’s new to the Uphill Athlete ways. Just wanted to post a quick note of thanks to this community for the seemingly endless amount of insightful info here on this site.

I started working on my aerobic base roughly 2 1/2 months ago where I live here in Ft. Worth, TX. I used the MAF formula which put me at 137. Like many, I couldn’t run for any length of time at a pace that kept me below that threshold. So kicked the ego to the curb and trusted the process (and bought a chest strap).

From there walk/runs were the norm…slow progress turned into running w/ no walking. On Tuesday this week I logged a fasted 6 miler at a 9:35 pace with an avg HR of 129. I was pumped!

Got a long way to go to get to the level of many of the athletes here but I feel great and glad I’ve trusted the process. So thank you to everyone here – y’all rock!

Btw, does anyone know of a reputable lab in Dallas-Ft Worth that does metabolic efficiency testing? Apologies if this is a repeat question 🙂

Welcome Pete E!! Good job on following the plan. Take it slow and it’ll come.
Also, you’ll progress at a rate and achieve a level that’s in line with your own individual body type and abilities.
Be cautious when comparing oneself to others (besides, who knows…you may artificially limit yourself when you may be capable of achieving greater things than many others!) 😉

    All the best!
