Unsure about my AeT

I did the test outside on pretty flat terrain and my Pa:Hr was 0.59% with an average heart rate of 157 and around a 12 minute mile, seems like a really aerobic threshold and a really low Pa:Hr. The effort seem pretty easy it was hard to run that slowly. I am 40 years old and do a lot of hiking but only run very sporadically, nothing else training wise except climbing here and there.
    Thank you! Michelle

    Hello!

I’m also unsure about my AeT 🙂 I first did the test a couple of years ago then in March (16th) and now again yesterday. I aimed for 151 in March and it came out as 5.8% so I thought a bit high but now I know from last night’s call how to show only segments in Training Peaks (thanks Alyssa!) for e.g. 51 mins is coming out at 3.64%. For the one I did yesterday (which I aimed for 148), for e.g. 42 mins in the middle is reading 3.68%. I can usually comfortably maintain around a heart rate in the 150-55 range for several hours. 148 felt like I could have a continuous conversation without being short on breath.

Also to note for yesterday’s one, I was trying to find flat ground for longer than anticipated so probably ended up in the “warm up” for more like 30-35 mins than 15 mins prior to the hour test.

I’d really appreciate guidance to pin down my AeT!

    Hi Ruth,
It sounds like 150 is right around your sweet spot for AeT right now. I would use that and retest in a few months 🙂

Thanks Alyssa, really appreciate your reply! one more update / question – I did the 1hr10 min “aerobic day” workout today (20 mins @3-4 RPE, 40 mins @4-6 RPE, 10 mins @3-5 RPE). I just did based on perceived effort (as recommended by Alexa in the WhatsApp chat) so wasn’t looking at heart rate. Looking at it now, I averaged 159 heart rate for the 40 mins middle section at 4-6 RPE… which felt fine and sustainable. So am wondering if I my AeT is higher than I aimed for in the test… any thoughts?
    Ruth

    Hi Ruth,
I would still try to stay closer to 155 or below for right now just to be on the safe side 🙂
