Climbing goal- Alpamayo (Peru, 19,500’/5,900m) in August. I would appreciate any info if someone has experience there.

I am training at sea level with highest elevation change in the area for steep hikes is 300′. I’m doing most of the weighted hikes in a gym. Would enjoy hearing how others are overcoming this obstacle.

Wife and two daughters (13 and 15 years) so life is busy.

Previous climbing is general sport climbing all around, Rainier (Kautz), Grand Teton, and Ober Gabelhorn and Zinalrothorn in the Swiss Alps.

Tim – there’s a good quick read in Training for the Uphill Athlete on page 88 that talks about how John Kelly trained and won the Barclay Marathon without any true access to mountains, despite there being over 67,000 feet of gain.

Might be worth a read and to gain some insight.
