Alyssa Leib is a registered dietitian whose passion for nutrition and wellness is deeply rooted in her love for the outdoors and mountain sports. Originally hailing from Appalachia, she relocated to Colorado in 2016. Immersing herself in trail running, rock climbing, and skiing, she soon recognized the prevalent issues of underfueling and the “lighter is better” culture within these communities.
Driven by her experiences and observations, Alyssa made the decision to return to school, dedicating herself to the study of nutrition. Her goal was clear: to empower mountain athletes with the knowledge and guidance needed to fuel their sports effectively, optimizing performance, and overall well-being.
With a decade of prior experience in health and nutrition research, Alyssa’s commitment to providing evidence-based recommendations is unwavering. Her approach to nutrition is holistic, recognizing that a healthy relationship with food is just as crucial as physical health and athletic achievement.
Alyssa’s path to becoming a registered dietitian is deeply personal. She overcame disordered eating and underfueling in college, resulting in a severe bone injury that curtailed her running for almost five years. Her recovery journey led to completing her first ultramarathon, sparking her passion for assisting athletes with nutrition for injury prevention and recovery.
Alyssa Leib’s qualifications include a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Colorado State University. As a registered dietician, she combines her academic knowledge with her personal experiences and outdoor adventures, making her a relatable and credible source of nutritional guidance for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.
Beyond her professional expertise, Alyssa’s athletic achievements are notable, from summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro to thru-hiking the John Muir Trail. Her diverse athletic background, spanning from sprinting to ultramarathons, exemplifies her adaptability and versatility in the world of sports. Alyssa’s dedication to nutrition, personal journey, and impressive athletic accomplishments collectively make her an invaluable resource for those striving to perform their best while maintaining a balanced relationship with food and health.
