    Hello, hello –

Female athletes, could you please share how you fuel during hikes and runs?
I’m vegan and do not eat refined sugar.

Bars, bars, and bars – blessed are those who eat energy bars or goo during exercise. I carry a couple of refined sugar-free vegan bars on me, but they are for emergencies.

I typically bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, tofu tortilla wraps, onigirazu, dried fruit, nuts, fresh fruit (short hikes), or dates filled with peanut butter. Once I took a frozen smoothie on a hotter hike and enjoyed it once it thawed – delicious.

I’m hoping to mix things up a bit.
If there are great ideas out there, please share.

    Thank you!

    Hey there,

I don’t have much to add to what you already eat, but I did want to mention vegan jerky if you don’t mind the refined nature of it. I’m not vegan, but tend to get nauseous easily on hikes when I eat and a vegan friend helped me out with that tip. I tend to eat mainly trail mix and vegan jerky. Treat foods if I can keep from destroying them are crisped peas and fresh fruit.

Thank you Shani! Great ideas! Your suggestions are added to my fuel list. 🙂
