Is there a time to train Zone 3?

Hi all,
I hope you can help me. I’m due to start the 16-week mountaineering plan to ascend Mont Blanc in September and some other peaks, weather permitting.
Naturally, most of my training will be in Zone 2, but looking at old Training Peaks data for past climbs, I’ve found that I have often been dragged out of Zone 2 and into Zone 3.As this depends on my group and the situation on the hill that day, I have not been able to lower the pace.
Considering this, should I occasionally be putting in training hikes in Zone 3?
Would there be any positive training effect for this?
Chances are I may be moving in Zone 3. What are the downsides of practising an occasional hiking session for this situation?
I appreciate any help you can provide.
