I’ve been popping Shot Bloks and goos during my long trail runs and stair climbs, not so much because I need them but just so that I know how I’ll tolerate them and how they’ll work on long Alpine days. I wonder though, if my goal is to encourage my body to metabolize fats, should I be avoiding these things during training?

    Hi ScottyP,
The short answer is: Mostly. You should stop eating carbs during low-intensity training. But not all training, not strength training or higher intensity efforts whether they be intervals, uphill water carries, etc. Those workouts should give you enough opportunity to test your tolerance to the GU and blocks.

    Thanks for writing in.
