decoupling of HR and RPE/respiration in cold

I’ve noticed that my heart rate appears to decouple occasionally from my RPE and respiration rate in cold, dry and windy conditions. E.g. Z2 RPE and conversational effort while HR is in Z3-Z4 levels. When this has occurred it is for extended periods =>15-45 min.

I have attributed this to some physiological response, perhaps increased circulation to keep skin temp and distal appendages warm. Has anyone experienced this or have other ideas or facts on what might be happening?

    Dehydration, maybe?

Cold, dry, and windy…it could be static electricity. Check out this thread from a couple years ago. https://uphillathlete.com/forums/topic/high-than-expected-sustained-hr/
