How fast can AeT drop during a break in trainingq

I have been dealing with small injuries here and there over the last couple of years. I recently had a consistent block of training from March to the beginning of August, and my AeT started at 140 and moved up to 152 over the course of this training (using a chest strap and a very well-controlled HR Drift Test on a perfectly flat course). Then life happened, I got busy and also did the big no-no: really long efforts on the weekends, resulting in me being too tired to train consistently during the week for about the last 3 weeks.

I plan on doing a spot-check for my AeT next week, but I’m curious to hear the experience of others with regard to how much AeT can drop during a period of inconsistent or no training. Hopefully that will give me an idea of where to aim for the test. Thanks in advance!

How much your AeT HR may have changed is hard to guess. More importantly, you’ll probably find that either your speed for a given HR will be slower and/or the amount of time that you can sustain it will be less.

As a general rule of thumb, it takes about one day of easy volume per day missed until you’re back in action.
