Training after hernia surgery

I am 2 weeks into recovery from a linguinal hernia surgery and I’m eager to get to training. I’d like to start the 8 week mountaineering training as this will be my first structured training routine.

Prior to surgery I was running, doing some rock climbing focused calisthenics and a weighted carry up an 800′ hill near my house and seeing some slight improvements.

So my question is how can I know when I can handle starting this program and what should I be doing until then? My surgeon insists that I lift nothing heavier than my shoes (do mountaineering boots count?!) for four weeks post surgery, no more than 25 lbs for six weeks.

I don’t want to lose what I’ve gained thus far and I am eager to get moving again
